Workshops and information sessions are provided by tykeTALK’s Health Promoter, Judy Ball. If you are interested in booking any of these sessions/workshops for your centre and families, please don’t hesitate to contact Judy at 850-8958 or by email at  judykball@yahoo.com
Informal Information Sessions
Information boards are set up with a variety of handouts and materials, including a checklist that parents can use to monitor their child’s speech and language development, brochures, bookmarks, magnets and a variety of handouts relating to speech and language disorders and strategies for developing better speech and language. The Health Promoter is available to answer parent’s questions. These sessions are most appropriate for drop in programs.
Workshop for Parents
This workshop consists of a short presentation on normal speech and language development, when to be concerned, and how to access services if a delay or disorder is suspected.
If child care can be available on site, the workshop can provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions and discuss concerns. These workshops can be tailored to specific areas of interest and will last from 1 to 1½ hours.
Workshops for Staff
This workshop covers aspects normal speech and language development and ways in which your staff can support the family to access services through tykeTALK. (handouts, as described above, are available to the centre for distribution). These workshops can provide opportunities for staff to ask questions about specific areas of speech and language development or delay and to look at ways in which they might be able to facilitate age appropriate communication in the children in their care. These workshops can be tailored to specific areas of interest and time available.
