- The assessment appointment will last about one hour
- Before you go, jot down some notes for instance any questions or concerns you may have, to share with the Speech Language Pathologist
- If you have kept a baby book, bring it along. It may help to answer some of the questions the Speech Language Pathologist will need to know.
- If your child has a hard time warming up to new people, ring some of those favorite special toys
- The Speech Language Pathologist will spend time playing with your child as well as watching your child with you. Most children find the assessment a fun experience.
- At the end of the assessment, the Speech Language Pathologist will discuss findings with you.
- Recommendations for therapy will be made at that time if necessary.
- You may be given some suggestions for things you can do at home to help your child's speech and language skills to develop
- Therapy may simply mean a Parent Program for you
- Your child may be determined to need a follow-up assessment in 6 months to see if there has been improvement without any special programs
